New Seasons
Every week since August, I make my way up the Study Center walkway, up the front porch, and into the house where I begin my intern shift. Throughout this past year, I have seen both the subtle details and the dramatic transformation of the changes that each season brings reflected in this simple walk. From the beginning of the school year, with new students and welcome events, to the changing leaves and colors of Fall, to all of the holiday cheer followed by icy front steps and blustery cold days of Winter, to Springtime, where the sun is shining and flowers begin to bloom, each season moves on to the next.
My very first time wandering up the Study Center front walkway was quite a change in season for me. My first day as an intern, I felt overwhelmed and anxious. Moving to Raleigh and starting a new program at NC State left me with so many uncertainties. I had no idea what this new season would hold. But just as I had to put one foot in front of the other to make it up the Study Center walkway, I had to continue putting one foot in front of the other in my life and trust God with the outcomes. I put my hope in Him because no matter my situation or my season, He is always with me. "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go," Joshua 1:9.
Now, approaching the end of the school year, we are met with another season. Summer is around the corner and a new school year will be here before we know it. Some of us may be about to experience some pretty significant life changing seasons such as graduating from college, starting a career, or moving away. Some of us may face a new season resulting from a switch in majors, an end or change in a relationship, or an adjustment to new roommates, routines, or living arrangements. It is important to take a moment to reflect on past seasons and the ways God has been faithful and has allowed us to grow. I know many of us will soon be stepping into a new season. Be encouraged and confident that God is walking right beside you wherever your next new walkway is.
