How do you bring together a growing faith with thoughtful influence for transformative service?

  Leaders who follow Jesus become the kind of people who answer this question in their lives as they integrate faith and work.

WHAT IS THE WILBERFORCE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM?

A two-semester formation experience for college students who want to lead for God's glory and the good of others. You'll start with who you are and who you want to become. You'll finish with tools and experiences to propel you forward for years to come.

WHY DO WE NEED IT?

The Wilberforce Leadership Program is created to invite students on this journey before they leave State.  Then, send them out into the world God loves with three essentials:

  • Confidence in the Gospel

  • A vision for flourishing

  • A passion for serving their communities with joy

HOW DOES IT HAPPEN?

The way there is to focus on formation and community so that people can learn to lead out of who they are becoming.  This will happen as students grow in their faith while developing as leaders.  Classes will bring together the wisdom of the Bible with the best of the tradition and provide conversation with local leaders. 

Over the 2026-27 academic year, WLP will pilot with a speaker series. In the fall of 2027, the first 18-student cohort will begin.

QUESTIONS?

This year we are planting the seeds of this program by offering 4 conversations on faith and work at the Study Center.  The following leaders will with speak about how they have been shaped to lead and how they have shaped the communities that they lead.  All events will be open to students and the community.

Students who participate in 3 of the 4 events will be guaranteed a place in the 18 person 2027-28 Cohort.  

David Spickard

Founder/CEO | 11Ten Leadership

David Spickard is passionate about helping leaders thrive so that their people thrive and ultimately their communities thrive. He is the founder and President of 11 Ten Leadership, a leadership development company based in Raleigh, NC, that works with CEOs and their leadership teams in companies with revenues up to $350 million per year to strengthen their leadership, culture, strategy, and impact. In addition, 11 Ten Leadership facilitates Just Leadership groups which are small cohorts of CEOs and leaders of influence that meet regularly to learn how to navigate issues of justice to strengthen their leadership and create a lasting impact.

Matt Young

Managing Partner| Concentric Investment Partners

Matt is a Managing Partner, Co-Founder, and Investment Committee member of Concentric Investment Partners in Raleigh.

Prior to co-founding Concentric, Matt was a Managing Director at Triangle Capital Corporation where he led or underwrote 26 platform investments involving over $500 million of invested capital. During his tenure, he served as a member of the Investment Committee and as a named Principal for each of Triangle's three SBIC funds including as a co-founder of Fund III. Previously, Mr. Young served as a Vice President for Cherokee Investment Partners.

Katherine Leary Alsdorf

Senior Advisor | Global Faith & Work Initiative

Katherine Leary Alsdorf is a Senior Advisory Board Member for The Global Faith and Work Initiative. She was the founder & former executive director of Redeemer’s Center for Faith & Work and co-author with Tim Keller of Every Good Endeavor. She came to Redeemer in 2002 to establish the Center for Faith & Work and help nurture a meaningful integration between people’s faith and their professional work. Prior to this ministry role at Redeemer, Katherine served 20 years in the high tech industry. In California, she served as CEO of Pensare, Inc., an online management education company, and CEO of One Touch Systems, Inc., a hardware/software products company. Before that, she was president of Private Satellite Network, a communications network and services company in New York City.

She received an MBA from The Darden School, University of Virginia, and a BA in Psychology and Education from Wittenberg University. She became a Christian mid-career in NYC through the ministries of Redeemer Presbyterian Church. Following her leadership of Redeemer Center for Faith & Work, she started New City Fellows in Raleigh, NC. She also serves on the Theology of Work Project Steering Committee, the board of The Carver Project, and as adjunct faculty at Regent College in Vancouver.
